County Hall

County Hall
SOUTHBANK

Situated on London’s South Bank, adjacent to the London Eye, iconic heritage building, County Hall, is home to tourist attractions, businesses, and hotels. Inspired by the LED lighting design of its famous neighbour, County Hall’s property management company, Metropolitan Estates, approached Architainment Lighting Ltd hoping to bring new life to the county Hall’s exterior through the use of dynamic, colourful lighting.

Architainment Lighting specified Philips Color Kinetics ColorReach Powercore (now gen2) LED floodlights to illuminate the landmark’s impressive Edwardian façade with light output of over 5,000 lumens and light projection of up to 500ft. The ColorReach Powercore floodlights were supplied as they intensely illuminate County Hall’s façade to its full height with uniform, colour changing light, and are digitally controllable light sources, able to project dynamic light shows and colour-changing effects at the push of a button, eliminating the need for maintenance-intensive and light-blocking coloured gels and filters. Their flexibility and high level of control allow corporate clients who hire County Hall for private events to easily and quickly brand the building and its surroundings with company colours or a distinctive theme.

Twenty ColorReach fixtures we supplied by Architainment in total, 16 of which were positioned at intervals between the columns to enhance the broad sweep of the crescent-shaped entrance, while the remaining four fixtures were spaced alongside the façade. Each ColorReach Powercore unit consumes just 290 watts at full intensity, compared with 600 watts for the conventional fixtures that they replaced, reducing energy usage for the application by about half.  Lighting effects and shows for the installation are stored on and triggered by a Philips Color Kinetics iPlayer 3 lighting controller.
