British Film Institute
SOUTHBANK

London-based design firm, Haberdashery London, was invited by the British Film Institute (BFI) to create an installation for the visitor ‘wayfinding’ experience at its South Bank facility.

Looking to re-affirm the BFI brand identity as the premier institute of cinematic arts, HaberdasheryLondon created an abstract video light installation and turned to Architainment Lighting to supply and commission the lighting.

Architainment Lighting supplied 51 strings (a total of over 2200 nodes) of Philips Color Kinetics iColor Flex MX (now Flex MX Gen2) to illuminate the three sides of the cube-shaped installation visible from the outside, and a HippoCritter from Green Hippo was used to control the lighting. In creating the installation, HaberdasheryLondon was aiming to challenge the viewer’s recognition of classic cinematic scenes, and create a strong visual link between the main entrance and the riverside entrance, uniting the space as one cohesive location.
