Kooyong is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria and famed for hosting the Australian Open Tennis tournament every January.

Shulberg Demkiw Architects were commissioned to design a modern private residence in this prestigious area, and a number of lighting fixtures from Lumascape were selected to emphasize landscaping and artwork on both the exterior and interior of the home.

A key feature of the property is the modern glass façade entrance, which is complemented by a large Liquidambar tree. The client wanted to create a ‘wow’ factor’ for this focal point after daylight hours, and lighting was the key ingredient in achieving this objective.

Several powerful LS793LED inground luminaires are used to uplight the glazed entrance structure, and the Liquidambar tree is fitted with 6 warm white LS321LEDs that are mounted to the tree with the LS680 tree strap accessory. The LS793LED is a compact, IP68, shallow-depth inground luminaire for applications requiring a very compact form factor, and features a 6 W LED module with output similar to a 50 W MR16. The LS321LED is an adjustable, direct or indirect accent fixture used for grazing walls or other accent illumination tasks, and features Lumascape d5 driver technology for advanced dimming and ?control options.

The curved iron panels that form a spherical sculpture at the base of the tree are illuminated in warm white by LS9401LED inground luminaires. Constructed in part from 316 marine grade stainless steel, the LS9401LED can be manually configured to deploy its full 2W output or be set as low as 0.2W. It too can be controlled dynamically via Lumascape d5 driver technology.

Inside the residence, LS793LEDs are also used to highlight the unique architectural details of hand scraped wall panels, exposed beams and hung artwork.

The driveway area was marked by LS553LED direct burial luminaires, installed in LS698-K blockouts which make them suitable for driving over. The LS553LED is a rugged, side emitting marker light constructed of 316 marine grade stainless steel, and is available in one, two, four or eight aperture models. This project uses the four aperture version. With its IK10 impact rating, the LS553LED is ideal for pathways, pedestrian malls and other public spaces, and some models are also suitable for use in low speed traffic areas.

LS782LED Astelia luminaires were used in the garden bed areas around the residence, to provide low level landscape lighting. The LS782LED Astelia is an excellent option for LED landscape lighting, featuring aim and tilt adjustability, a choice of finishes and long service life.

Karren De’Ath of Lumascape comments “ We have a heritage of producing lighting solutions for demanding environments, so our suite of inground, high impact, IP68 and 316 marine grade luminaires were ideal for this high end residential project near Port Philip. The design and durability of the lighting solutions used on this project will provide the client with efficient, architectural and landscape lighting for many years to come “
